To start time tracking, you no longer need to reset your work hour accounts to prevent missing check-ins from previous weeks from entering your balances as minus hours. If you want to deliberately set an existing balance to zero or transfer an actually existing balance from a previous recording, this is still possible via a balancing entry – year-crossing balances are not automatically transferred for this at the moment.
Set the start date for time tracking
Under Settings > Time Tracking you will find the field "Starts from:". There you set from which day the time tracking counts for the balance calculation. There is nothing wrong with the team using check-in in the weeks before to practice – the days before the entered start date do not affect the balance:
- If a team member has no target working time entered, all days before the start date count with zero effective hours – they do not flow into the balance at all.
- If a target working time is entered, the days before the start date are automatically treated as if exactly the planned working time has been performed – here too, there is no surplus or minus hour balance for the time before.
Resetting time tracking
In Belbo, you can always properly start time tracking on the 1st of a month. There is nothing wrong with the team using check-in in the weeks before to practice. The reset of the recording can only be performed from the desired day of actual recording.
Option 1: Reset times to zero
With this option, a team member starts at the cut-off date at zero overtime or minus hours. (By the way: Recording always starts at zero at the beginning of the year. So if you want to start on 01.01, you don't need to do anything else.)
- Go to Settings > Time Tracking in the month before the start of recording
- Click on the number in the "Result since beginning of year (overtime/minus hours)" row

- Enter the reason for the balancing entry (1) and copy the suggested number
- Change the mode to "Build hours" (2)
- Insert the number in the minutes field (3)
- Save the balancing entry

The following month now starts at zero overtime or minus hours.

Option 2: Transfer times from previous records
To transfer overtime or minus hours from previous records, you can proceed as described above. Then click on the zero in the recording and create another balancing entry that contains the number of minutes of the actual overtime or minus hours.
